Playroom with elephant wallpaper and lots of storage space
The new elephant wallpaper from Studio Ditte fits perfectly with the basis that we had created. Our house is characterized by a lot of color. Where I started with a fairly minimalist style with soft pastel shades, a good dose of color has now been added to every room. The color palette basically consists of pink, ice blue, petrol and cobalt blue mixed with blond wood and sturdy black elements.

Our house is characterized by a lot of color
Last year, during our house hunt, this neglected 1950s house passed by. After 3 viewings, discussing plans with the contractor and a clear financial budget, we decided to go for it! In 4 months we stripped the entire house and rebuilt roughly everythin. As soon as the shell was finished, we moved in with our family and could start making our house a home.

The color palette basically consists of pink, ice blue, petrol and cobalt blue mixed with blond wood and sturdy black elements. I enjoy personalizing our home with design items, but I also like to get started with DIY projects. The big advantage is that my husband likes to do odd jobs and he can make almost anything I come up with.
Styling feels like icing on the cake
I am quite visual and therefore enjoy working with interior styling. For as long as I can remember I have been "shooting pictures" in my head and brainstorming about spaces on how to make them even more personal and cozy. I come from a family of 5 children and my mother was also always busy with creative space-saving solutions in the house, moving furniture and creating cozy corners. I think the foundation has already been laid and I see our boys regularly adapt their room ;-) It is wonderfully relaxing for me to work with the paint brush and the styling always feels like icing on the cake.
Tips for a nice playroom
Our house originally consisted of 2 houses, we bought it as such but decided to completely change the original layout. The current playroom was a non-insulated boiler room and we even found remains of a former cannabis plantation in the attic of this extension! But I saw the potential of this extra space to make a nice play area for our 3 boys. Tip: take the construction drawing and floor plan of your home. Maybe there is a utility room that can (partly) be converted into a playroom or do you have an extension attached to the house, just like us? It does not have to be large, a few m2 is already nice to be able to put the things down and give the kids their own place.
Also think about what you would like in a playroom. If the children are a bit smaller, it is nice to set up a few things for their imagination, for example a teepee tent or kitchen. You often see that it challenges to play and it is used multifunctionally. For example, our kitchen is already used here at home as a school, shop and restaurant ;-) When they are a bit older, they are very happy with a chill place where you can play games or watch TV undisturbed. You can opt for a simple sofa, but with a few beanbags they can decide for themselves where they sit down and the space can be turned over again.
Storage space is a must have
What is really a must have for every parent is storage space. Of course we also have the most colorful and stylish toys in the house, but as soon as the kids are in bed, everything disappears behind the large doors of the ceiling-high cupboard. My husband made this cabinet himself, he used poplar plywood and we had the doors adjusted by a carpenter. I am still happy with this custom-made cupboard every day, all the toys fit in it and everything stays nice and tidy.
Elephant wallpaper & blue / green tone on the wall
I painted the wall on the other side in the color Fresh Foliage from Flexa, a fresh blue / green shade that matches nicely with the elephant wallpaper from Studio Ditte. We have installed an XXL PVC herringbone floor of the Floer brand on the entire ground floor. It gives a warm appearance to our house, works well with the underfloor heating and is a nice counterpart in our interior with predominantly cool tones. The new wallpaper fits perfectly with the basis that we had created. Everything is just right and Dex, Otis & Bowi now play even more in their nice playroom!
